About the Author

Larry J. Siegel was born in the Bronx in 1947. Residing on Jerome Avenue and attending City College of New York (CCNY) in the 1960s, he was drawn into the societal and political trends of the era. He became intrigued by the impact contemporary culture had on individual conduct: Did individuals shape society or did society mold individuals? He connected his curiosity in societal forces and human demeanor to the exploration of wrongdoing and justice. After completing his education at CCNY, he enrolled in the penal justice program at the State University of New York at Albany, completing his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees there. Dr. Siegel initiated his teaching vocation at Northeastern University and has also taken up teaching posts at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire, and in the School of Criminology and Justice Studies at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell (UML). Presently a Professor Emeritus, he persists in imparting lessons on criminology and penal justice in UML’S web-based master’s degree program. Dr. Siegel has composed extensively in the realm of crime and justice, comprising works on minor law, delinquency, criminology, corrections, penal justice, and penal procedure. He is a courtroom-certified expert on police conduct and has given testimony in numerous legal instances.
