She has been researching and composing about the adult entertainment industry for more than two decades. She has authored various pieces on adult entertainment, media portrayals of women, and depictions of ethnicity in mainstream entertainment. Her most recent publication is PORNLAND: How Pornography has Hijacked our Sexuality. She is one of the founders of the advocacy organization Cease Porn Culture!

   Jean M. Humez is a retired women’s studies professor at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, where she taught classes in women’s studies and American studies and led the women’s studies department. She initiated and taught an undergraduate course on women and media early in her career, and later connected with Gail Dines through her interest in media content analysis. She has also authored books and papers on African American women’s spiritual and secular life stories, as well as on women and gender within Shaker religion. Her latest publication is Harriet Tubman: The Life and the Life Stories.
