Throughout more than three decades, Canadian Politics: Critical Approaches has captivated university students in the narrative and discussions of the Canadian political landscape. The country has undergone significant transformations over these past numerous years; however, Canada’s political structures have remained relatively unchanged. The enduring thread of political stability amidst rapidly evolving social, economic, and global landscapes is a recurring theme in Canadian politics. Following the most recent election, the federal administration set forth an ambitious program of political restructuring. Among various reforms, the new government has committed to revamping the House of Commons, the Senate, and the electoral process. This literature equips readers with the knowledge and context necessary to think critically and analytically about these and many other challenges currently facing Canada. The main emphasis of this text lies in the interplay between the two components of the Canadian political system: its “environment” and its institutions. Students will delve into the divergent interests underpinning Canadian political activities and explore topics related to political culture, mass media, public opinion, elections, and advocacy groups, which will acquaint them with the vibrant and dynamic realm of Canadian politics. This updated eighth edition of Canadian Politics: Critical Approaches aims to foster informed critics among its readers by delivering the pertinent, complex concepts of Canada’s political framework with an impartial and engaging portrayal of both political institutions and social influencers.
