Formerly, J. Scott Harr labored across various sectors of the law for three decades. He held the position of Chief Law Enforcement Officer and Public Security Director in a suburb of the Twin Cities and served as a police officer in two other municipalities prior to that. Additionally, he acted as a firefighter and an emergency medical technician. Licensed as an attorney, police officer, and private investigator, he lectured at Normandale Community College, Metropolitan State University, and Concordia University.
Formerly, Ok�ren Matison Hess, PhD, authored extensively in law enforcement and criminal justice, garnering a respected reputation for the consistent educational style with which she shaped each textbook. She collaborated on multiple editions of MANAGEMENT AND SUPERVISION IN LAW ENFORCEMENT, CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION, JUVENILE JUSTICE, and INTRODUCTION TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE in addition to CONSTITUTIONAL LAW AND THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM; much of her influence and work remains unchanged in this latest edition.
Christine Hess Orthmann possesses a Master of Science in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati and has dedicated over 20 years to writing about and researching various facets of criminal justice. An esteemed author of numerous Cengage Learning textbooks, Ms. Orthmann previously served as a reserve officer with the Rosemount (Minnesota) Police Department. She is affiliated with the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, the American Society of Criminology, the Text and Academic Authors Association, and the National Criminal Justice Honor Society (Alpha Phi Sigma).
Jon Kingsbury, JD, has been a part of the Minneapolis (Minnesota) Police Department since 1995. Most of his professional endeavors have revolved around uniformed roles, including patrol officer and supervisor. Alongside his uniformed duties, he has filled positions as a department physical fitness instructor, defense tactics coordinator, field training officer, SWAT team leader, and in-service instructor. Lieutenant Kingsbury earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Minnesota and a Juris Doctor from Hamline University School of Law, graduating with high honors. He has taught college courses in report writing and criminal procedure and has lent his expertise as a law enforcement consultant in the realms of use of force and search and seizure. He is affiliated with several associations, including the Minnesota State Bar Association, the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association, and the National Tactical Officers Association.
