About the Author

Lawrence W. Neuman, currently serving as a Sociology Professor and overseeing the Asian Studies Program at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Dr. Neuman was honored with UWW’s most prestigious accolade for research, the Chancellor’s Award recognizing exceptional service to students with disabilities, as well as the College of Letters and Sciences distinctions for exemplary teaching, research excellence, and outstanding service. His research endeavors encompass themes such as national identity, the perception of the Other, policies regarding racial-ethnic categorization, immigration, Japanese social policies and national identity, and the U.S. anime fan subculture.

Karen Robson took up a post in the Sociology Department at York University in 2004 and subsequently undertook swift post-doctoral positions at the Centre for Research on the Wider Benefits of Learning within the Institute of Education in London, UK (2006-2007) and The Geary Institute at University College Dublin in Dublin, Ireland (2007-2008).

During her doctoral studies, she was employed as a Research Officer at the Institute of Social and Economic Research, where she was engaged in numerous research initiatives, including a venture supported by UNICEF exploring the determinants of adolescent parenthood across the European Union.
