About the Writer
Bruce L. Bowerman is a professor of decision sciences at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He earned his Ph.D. in statistics from Iowa State University in 1974, and he possesses over 40 years of experience teaching fundamental statistics, regression analysis, time series forecasting, survey sampling, and design of experiments to both undergraduate and graduate students. In 1987, Professor Bowerman received an Outstanding Teaching accolade from the Miami University senior class, and in 1992, he was honored with an Effective Educator award from the Richard T. Farmer School of Business Administration. Together with Richard T. O’Connell, Professor Bowerman has authored 16 textbooks. These include Predicting and Time Series: A Practical Approach; Predicting, Time Series, and Regression: A Practical Approach (also co-authored with Anne B. Koehler); and Linear Statistical Models: A Practical Approach. The initial edition of Predicting and Time Series garnered an Outstanding Educational Book recognition from Choice magazine. Professor Bowerman has also published numerous articles on applied stochastic processes, time series forecasting, and statistical education. In his free time, Professor Bowerman enjoys watching movies and sports, playing tennis, and engaging in architectural design.
Anne M. Drougas is a Finance and Quantitative Techniques professor at Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois. Throughout her academic journey, she has received three teaching distinctions and has formulated and delivered online and hybrid business statistics and finance courses. Her research primarily delves into corporate finance, simulation, and business analytics, with publications in various journals such as the Journal of Financial Education and Journal of Applied Business and Economics. She dedicates her spare time to her family and serving on the board of directors for Hephzibah House, a social welfare organization for children in Oak Park, Illinois.
William M. Duckworth specializes in statistics education and business applications of statistics. He is associated with the American Statistical Association (ASA), the International Association for Statistical Education (IASE), and the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI). Dr. Duckworth was also a member of the Undergraduate Statistics Education Initiative (USEI), which developed curriculum guidelines for undergraduate programs in statistical science that were officially endorsed by the ASA. Dr. Duckworth has authored research papers, delivered keynotes at professional conferences, conducted corporate training workshops, and provided consulting and expert witness services to a multitude of organizations. While serving in the Statistics Department at Iowa State University, his primary role involved coordinating, instructing, and enhancing introductory business statistics courses. Currently, Dr. Duckworth teaches business analytics to undergraduate and graduate students at the Heider School of Business at Creighton University.
Amy G. Froelich completed her Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and is currently an Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Education in the Statistics Department at Iowa State University. A specialist in undergraduate statistics education, she has instructed over 2,700 students at Iowa State over the past 18 years, predominantly in introductory statistics, probability and mathematical statistics, and categorical data analysis. Her scholarship in statistics education, psychometrics, and educational measurement has been published in The American Statistician, the Journal of Statistics Education, Teaching Statistics, and the Journal of Educational Measurement. She and her collaborators have secured research funding from the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the U.S. Department of Education. Dr. Froelich has been honored with several teaching and advising awards at Iowa State University and was bestowed with the 2010 Waller Education Award from the American Statistical Association. When not engaged in work, she finds pleasure in reading, spending time with her family, and supporting her daughters’ extracurricular pursuits.
Ruth M. Hummel serves as an Academic Advocate with JMP, a subsidiary of SAS specializing in desktop software for dynamic data visualization and analysis. In her capacity as a technical proponent for JMP in academic settings, she aids professors and educators who leverage JMP for teaching and research. Since commencing her career as a high school mathematics teacher in 2002, she has been involved in teaching and consulting. She has conducted high school, undergraduate, and graduate courses in mathematics and statistics, and overseen statistical research and analysis across diverse fields. Ruth holds a Ph.D. in statistics from Pennsylvania State University.
