Regarding the Author
Cathy J. Scott serves as a Professor of Accounting and is the Chair of the Accounting Department at Navarro College. She was honored with the Texas Society of CPAs Distinguished Accounting Educator Award in 2014, recognized as the American Accounting Association Educator of the Year for 2012-2013, and also bestowed the Teaching Excellence Award by Navarro College in 2010. Dr. Scott attained her undergraduate degree from Nazareth College, followed by an MBA from Amberton University, a postgraduate accounting degree from Keller Graduate School of Management, and her PhD from Capella University. Before transitioning to academia, Dr. Scott enjoyed a 25-year accounting career within the automotive sector. She remains a well-received lecturer in the fields of accounting and financial management for automotive manufacturers and dealership associations. Dr. Scott has authored numerous accounting-focused articles for automotive publications. She actively participates in the Institute of Management Accountants, Teachers of Accounting at Two-Year Colleges (TACTYC), the American Accounting Association (AAA), National Business Educators Association (NBEA), and Texas Community College Teachers Association (TCCTA). She has held various regional and national roles within the American Accounting Association, including Secretary of the Two-Year College section and co-coordinator of the Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum Southwest Region. Dr. Scott holds a board position at TACTYC and has served in diverse capacities at TCCTA, notably as the former chair of the accounting division. Dr. Scott is a frequently requested speaker and advocates for effective online education and innovative teaching technologies.
