Larry J. Siegel was born in the Bronx in 1947. While residing on Jerome Avenue and attending City College of New York (CCNY) in the 1960s, he was engulfed in the societal and political currents of that era. He became intrigued by the impact contemporary culture had on individual behavior: Did people mold society or did society mold people? He applied his fascination with social influences and human behavior to the exploration of crime and justice. Upon graduating from CCNY, he pursued the newly established program in criminal justice at the State University of New York at Albany, achieving both his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees there. Following the completion of his postgraduate studies, Dr. Siegel embarked on his teaching journey at Northeastern University, where he served as a faculty member for nine years. After departing Northeastern, he held teaching roles at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire. Subsequently, he lectured in the Department of Criminology and Justice Studies at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell for over 26 years. Presently a Professor Emeritus, he continues to conduct online courses. Dr. Siegel has extensively written in the field of crime and justice, encompassing works on juvenile law, delinquency, criminology, criminal justice, and criminal procedure. He is a legally certified expert on police behavior and has provided testimony in numerous legal cases.

Clem Bartollas is a professor of Sociology at the University of Northern Iowa. He holds a B.A. from Davis and Elkins College, a B.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary, an S.T.M. from San Francisco Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in sociology with a specific focus in criminology from The Ohio State University. He has taught at Pembroke State University, Sangamon State University, and the University of Northern Iowa, where he has garnered various accolades, including Distinguished Scholar, the Donald McKay Research Award, and the Regents’ Award for Faculty Excellence. Dr. Bartollas is the author of numerous articles and over 30 texts.
