David Colander is a recognized Faculty Professor at Middlebury College. He has written, co-written, or edited more than 40 books and over 150 articles on an extensive array of economic subjects.

He attained his B.A. from Columbia College and his M.Phil. and Ph.D. from Columbia University. Additionally, he pursued studies at the University of Birmingham in England and at Wilhelmsburg Gymnasium in Germany. Professor Colander has taught at Columbia University, Vassar College, the University of Miami, and Princeton University as the Kelley Professor of Remarkable Teaching. Further, he has served as an advisor to Time-Life Films, a Congressional advisor, a Brookings Policy Fellow, and a Visiting Scholar at Nuffield College, Oxford.

He has led the History of Economic Thought Society and the Eastern Economics Association as President. Moreover, he has been a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Economic Perspectives, The Journal of Economic Education, The Journal of Economic Methodology, The Journal of the History of Economic Thought, The Journal of Socio-Economics, and The Eastern Economic Journal. He chaired the AEA Committee on Electronic Publishing, was a member of the AEA Committee on Economic Education, and presently functions as the content associate editor for the Journal of Economic Education.

Married to a pediatrician, Patrice, in their leisure time, the Colanders curated and constructed an oak post-and-beam residence on a steep overlooking the Green Mountains towards the east and the Adirondacks towards the west. Their abode is positioned at a previous drive-in movie theater site. (They swapped the speaker columns with fruit trees and repurposed the I-beams from the screen as reinforcement for the second storey of the barn and the garage.) They presently divide their time between Florida and Vermont.
