David Colander holds the position of Distinguished Faculty Professor at Middlebury College. He has authored, collaborated on, or edited more than 40 books and over 150 articles on a diverse range of economic subjects.

He attained his B.A. at Columbia College and his M.Phil. and Ph.D. at Columbia University. He also pursued studies at the University of Birmingham in England and at Wilhelmsburg Gymnasium in Germany. Professor Colander has lectured at Columbia University, Vassar College, the University of Miami, and Princeton University as the Kelley Professor of Distinguished Teaching. Moreover, he has worked as a consultant for Time-Life Films, provided consultation to Congress, served as a Brookings Policy Fellow, and acted as a Visiting Scholar at Nuffield College, Oxford.

He has held the presidency of both the History of Economic Thought Society and the Eastern Economics Association. Additionally, he has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Economic Perspectives, The Journal of Economic Education, The Journal of Economic Methodology, The Journal of the History of Economic Thought, The Journal of Socio-Economics, and The Eastern Economic Journal. He chaired the AEA Committee on Digital Publishing, was a member of the AEA Committee on Economic Education, and presently serves as the associate editor for content of the Journal of Economic Education.

He is married to a pediatrician, Patrice. During their leisure hours, the Colanders engineered and erected an oak post-and-beam residence on a crest that overlooks the Green Mountains to the east and the Adirondacks to the west. Nestled on the grounds of a former drive-in cinema, the house is their abode. (They repurposed the speaker poles with fruit trees and repurposed the I-beams from the screen to support the second level of the carriage house and the garage.) They now divide their time between Florida and Vermont.
