The book Employment Law for Business authored by Bennett-Alexander and Hartman delves into employment regulation and employment choices through a managerial lens. This manuscript showcases to students the strategies of managing effectively and efficiently, understanding completely the legal implications of their choices. Scholarly individuals are trained to scrutinize employment law facts employing concrete instances of challenging management-related legal quandaries. The writers exemplify the diversified approaches that can be utilized to reach a resolution, ensuring that students grasp the art of formulating their business choices rooted in legal considerations.
The narrative delves into the intricate dilemmas contemporary businesses face, such as whether employers bear responsibility if they were unaware of a supervisor sexually harassing an employee, and whether an employer is accountable for racial discrimination upon firing a black male who refuses to comply with a “no-beard” directive. Such predicaments, settled commonly in workplaces daily, can yield dire financial and productivity repercussions if mismanaged by employers. However, few employers or their executives and supervisors are adept at handling them adeptly.
The ninth edition has been enriched with developments like the 2015 U.S. Supreme Court pregnancy lawsuit, Young v. UPS, and the 2015 U.S. Supreme Court Obergefell judgment outlawing states from prohibiting same-sex marriages, along with contemporary occurrences like the 2016 presidential election and its repercussions on employment decisions. Furthermore, this edition provides more comprehensive coverage of modern issues, including technology and recruitment evaluation tools, critiques of drug screenings, and allegations of gender and age bias.
