Mary Ellen Guffey, an experienced professional, has been teaching corporate communication and business English topics for more than 35 years. She earned a bachelor’s degree, with highest honors, from Bowling Green State University, a master’s degree from the University of Illinois, and a doctorate in business and financial education from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Her teaching experience includes positions at the University of Illinois, Santa Monica College, and Los Angeles Pierce College. As the most prominent author in the field of corporate communication worldwide, Dr. Guffey communicates with educators from all over the world who utilize her publications. She is the original author of the award-winning Business Communication: Process and Product, the primary corporate communication textbook in this country. Additionally, she authored Business English, which is utilized by a larger number of students compared to any other book in its category; Essentials of College English; and Essentials of Business Communication, the main textual resource in its market. Dr. Guffey is actively involved in her profession, serving on the editorial boards of Business and Professional Communication Quarterly and the Journal of Business Communication, both publications of the Association for Business Communication. She participates in national conferences, sponsors awards for business communication excellence, and is dedicated to promoting superior corporate communication teaching methods and improving student writing skills.
Since 1996, Dana Loewy has been instructing corporate communication at California State University, Fullerton. She enjoys introducing undergraduates to business writing and refining the abilities of graduate students in managerial communication. Recently, she has begun teaching various German courses and regularly acts as a guest lecturer at Fachhochschule Nürtingen, Germany. In addition to completing numerous notable consulting assignments, she is certified as a business etiquette consultant. Dr. Loewy has collaborated with Dr. Guffey on recent editions of Business Communication: Process and Product as well as on Essentials of Business Communication. Dr. Loewy holds a master’s degree from Bonn University, Germany, and earned a PhD in English from the University of Southern California. Fluent in several languages, including German and Czech, her two native languages, Dr. Loewy has authored substantial articles across various domains of interest—literary criticism, translation, corporate communication, and business ethics. Before teaming up with Dr. Guffey, Dr. Loewy published numerous poetry and prose translations, most notably The Early Poetry of Jaroslav Seifert and On the Waves of TSF. Actively engaged in the Association for Business Communication, Dr. Loewy concentrates on developing effective teaching and learning materials for undergraduate and graduate students focusing on corporate communication.
