Krasner’s Microbial Challenge A Public Health Perspective Fourth Edition Teri Shors

Teri Shors has been a faculty member of the Department of Biology and Microbiology at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh since 1997; she was elevated to the position of Professor in 2010. Shors is a dedicated educator and researcher at the undergraduate and graduate levels and has been a recipient of university accolades, including a distinguished teaching accolade and two endowed professorships. She has instructed a diverse array of courses and laboratories and has made a significant contribution to the creation of new microbiology and molecular biology courses within the department. Shors’ graduate and postgraduate education is centered on virology and is manifested in her research. Prior to teaching at UW Oshkosh, she was a postdoctoral researcher in the Laboratory of Viral Diseases under the leadership of Dr. Bernard Moss at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). While her initial expertise lies in the study of vaccinia virus genes expression, she is currently exploring the potential of antiviral agents in cranberries, other fruits, and herbs utilized as natural remedies in Hmong culture. This antiviral research has been financially supported by various grant-giving organizations, including a prestigious Merck/AAAS award. Shors has mentored numerous students involved in independent research projects and related studies. Shors contributes significantly as a co-writer to the third iteration of The Microorganism Challenge. She is the author of Understanding Viruses, currently in its 2nd edition, and has recently penned Encounters in Virology. Additionally, she has contributed to and authored a diverse range of other manuscripts and scientific publications. Initiative, creativity, innovation in the classroom, networking, and leading collaborative, interdisciplinary research are all defining features of Shors’ talents. Her utilization of technology, topical matters, and humor renders her popular among students in the academic sphere. She has recently designed and delivered an online virology course for undergraduates.
