Rafael J. Engel, PhD, is an associated lecturer at the University of Pittsburgh. His PhD was achieved in 1988 from the University of Wisconsin, while his MSW dates back to 1979 from the University of Michigan, and his BA earned in 1978 from the University of Pennsylvania. He orchestrates the graduate certification program in aging, and is the leading researcher for the Hartford Collaboration Program for Advanced Age Education. He has composed Essentials of Social Welfare Investigation (in partnership with Russell Schutt) and Evaluating Race and Ethnicity (in collaboration with Larry E. Davis). Additionally, he serves as the co-editor-in-chief of the periodical Cross-Generational Relationships and is a board member of the periodical Race and Social Issues. He has generated periodical articles addressing topics such as elderly impoverishment, wellbeing benefits, and despondency, alongside an array of monographs conveying institution-based evaluations. His exploration background envelops subsidized research projects on gambling, religion-affiliated organizations, and workplace engagement in advanced years, along with subsidized evaluative research projects concerning welfare-to-employment schemes and drug and alcohol prevention programs. His most recent inquiry focuses on senior citizens and measures for gambling prevention.
Russell K. Schutt, PhD, holds the position of Sociology Professor at the University of Massachusetts Boston; he also serves as Clinical Research Expert I at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, as well as a part-time Lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Russell earned his BA, MA, and PhD at the University of Illinois, Chicago, and completed his post-doctoral fellowship in the Sociology of Social Management Program at Yale University. Apart from collaborating on The Activity of Exploration in Criminology and Criminal Justice and Essentials of Exploration in Criminology and Criminal Justice (alongside Ronet Bachman), he is the creator of Analyzing the Social Universe: The Procedure and Practice of Exploration and Grasping the Social Universe: Exploration Techniques for the New Century, and collaborator on Making Sense of the Social Universe (with Dan Chambliss), Exploration Techniques in Psychology (with Paul G. Nestor), The Activity of Exploration in Social Welfare and Essentials of Social Welfare Investigation (with Ray Engel), and Exploration Techniques in Education (with Joseph Check), all published by SAGE Publications. He is also the author of Homelessness, Housing, and Mental Infirmity and Administration in a Transforming Environment, co-editor of Social Cerebrum: Brain, Intellect, and Society and of The Organizational Solution to Social Problems, and collaborator of Replying to the Homeless: Strategy and Practice. He has authored and co-authored over 65 journal articles, in addition to numerous book sections and exploration reports concerning homelessness, psychological well-being, service leanings and satisfaction, institutions, and the sociology of legislation. His present and recent studies encompass a $200,000 National Science Foundation-funded exploration on the societal repercussions of the pandemic in Boston, where he collaborates with the Survey Research Center (UMass Boston) and Northeastern University, a $3.8 million randomized differential effectiveness test evaluating two social-oriented interventions to enhance community performance among individuals diagnosed with critical psychological disorders, financed by the Patient-Focused Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with collaborators at the Harvard Medical School, and a $1 million Veterans Health Administration-financed investigation of peer assistance along with colleagues at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and the VA. His previous investigations have received funding from the National Cancer Institute, Veterans Health Administration, National Institute of Mental Health, Fetzer Institute, and regional agencies.
